Google Pixel Watch: don't expect revolutionary battery life
Google has always been a big player in the smartwatch market. Indeed, since 2014, the Mountain View company has provided the WearOS operating system (formerly Android Wear) that other companies can use to run their watches.
But today, Google finally aims to be present on the hardware. We know that the internet giant has been working on a "Pixel" watch for years. And in May, during his I/O conference, he finally made the “Pixel Watch” watch official.
For the moment, Google has only shown the design of this future watch. The product will have a circular screen and will stand out thanks to its borderless style. Google has not yet mentioned the characteristics, but little by little, unofficial sources of information tell us more about the future connected watch Pixel.
In an article published recently, for example, the site 9to5Google evokes the autonomy that the Pixel Watch will have. And obviously, the Google watch will not have revolutionary autonomy.
According to the article, the Pixel Watch should be equipped with a battery of almost 300 mAh. And when it comes to battery life, that would translate to lasting one day. But 9to5Google also warns that at this time, this would be Google's estimate at this point, and that things may still change between now and the product launch.
Moreover, a few details are still missing in order to form a real opinion about the autonomy of the Pixel Watch. In fact, we do not know under what conditions the tests were carried out. For example, it is not known whether during these tests, Google activated the AOD (always-on screen) function, and whether the firm's engineers used the sleep monitoring functions.
But whatever the case, everything suggests that the autonomy of the Pixel Watch will be quite similar to that of other products in the same category, such as connected watches from Fossil.
Pixel Watch: chips and sensors
Autonomy is an important parameter, but to assess the quality of a product, other elements come into play. And precisely there are also rumors circulating about the chip that will be used by the Pixel Watch, and at the subject of its sensors for monitoring the health and well-being of the user.
Regarding the chip, 9to5Google had published an article in May on this subject. Citing a source familiar with the matter, the site said the watch is expected to use the Exynos 9110 chip that Samsung released in 2018. Why use such an old chip? This could be because this component was available when the project started.
Another source on the site confirmed that the Pixel Watch will indeed use this processor, but it seems that Google is also equipping its watch with a coprocessor. This second chip could be a less power-hungry component that could be used by always-on features like the AOD screen, or streaming parameters like heart rate.
As for memory, the Pixel Watch is said to have 32GB of storage. And the RAM memory would be the highest on the market, which should eliminate certain performance problems that have been observed on certain competing products.
Pixel Watch: an important product for Google, in a growing market
As usual, this information does not come from an official source, we consider it with caution. But in any case, the Pixel Watch will be a very important launch for Google. Read More...
