Government puts social media giants on notice over misinformation and hate speech during voice referendum
The Australian government and eSafety commissioner are urging social media giants to stamp out misinformation and hate speech during the Indigenous voice campaign, saying tech companies must be “on notice” on the matter of racist abuse.
The peak body advocating for ethnic communities also raises the alarm on misinformation during the referendum campaign, calling for factchecking and resources to be translated into numerous languages.
“Misinformation and disinformation is going to be a big issue,” the eSafety commissioner, Julie Inman Grant, said.
