Guanzon dares Ferolino to resign
Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Rowena Guanzon dared her colleague Aimee Ferolino to resign along with her amid the controversy over the disqualification case of presidential candidate Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.
In her Twitter posts, Guanzon, who heads the Comelec's First Division assigned to handle three disqualification petitions that have been consolidated into one case, challenged Ferolino to join her in resigning before February 3 "since the integrity of the Comelec is now in question."
Last week, Guanzon publicly revealed her decision to disqualify Marcos ahead of a resolution written by Ferolino, the ponente in the case.
She said there are people who want to delay the issuance of the resolution because "they do not want my separate opinion to be part of the records so it will not reach the Supreme Ct (Court). So I will release it at 2 p.m."
Monday was Guanzon's last day in office because she will be retiring on February 2.
Guanzon warned during a TV interview there will be "trouble" if Ferolino did not issue the resolution by January 31.
In a memorandum she issued on the same day, Ferolino replied:
"With all due respect, there is nothing to explain because I do not submit to your pronouncement that there is delay in the release of my ponencia on the Marcos cases."
Ferolino said she is taking her time in reviewing the case since she does not want her ruling to resemble Guanzon's memorandum dated Jan. 29, 2021, which she described as erroneous.
Ferolino emphasized that the disqualification petitions were raffled to her office on January 10, but it was only four days later that they were submitted for resolution. Read More…
