Guatemala's TAG Airlines Reports A 105% Traffic Growth In Q1
TAG Airlines, the national airline of Guatemala, recently reported remarkable growth in passenger traffic, with an astounding 105% increase during the first quarter of the year. This carrier had a strong start, achieving revenue growth of 122.3% compared to 2022, as it expanded its services in Central America and Mexico.
Rapid Growth of TAG Airlines
Over the past few months, TAG Airlines, the state carrier of Guatemala, has experienced substantial growth. According to the information provided on their website, the airline operates flights to five destinations within Guatemala, four in Mexico, three in Honduras, one in El Salvador, and one in Belize. Presently, the airline conducts 47 daily flights using a commercial fleet of 12 aircraft, with plans for further expansion.
During the first quarter of this year, TAG Airlines transported 89,487 passengers, marking a significant 105% increase compared to the same period in 2022. In the period between January and March 2022, TAG Airlines served 43,723 passengers.
Similarly, TAG's seat capacity has surged from 63,411 seats available at the beginning of last year to 134,324 seats this year. The airline stated that passenger revenues witnessed a growth of 122.3%, and the operating margin in the first quarter of 2022 was surpassed by a factor of 6.3. Julio Gamero, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TAG Airlines, expressed his satisfaction, stating,

TAG Airlines aspires to become the most renowned carrier in the Mayan geographical zone, encompassing Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, and the southern regions of Mexico. The airline presently offers 40 daily flights to 14 destinations across these five countries. Within Guatemala, TAG operates flights to Guatemala City (GUA), Flores (FRS), Puerto Barrios (PBR), Retalhuleu (RER), and Quetzaltenango (AAZ). In addition, the airline serves Roatán (RTB), San Pedro Sula (SAP), and Tegucigalpa (TGU) in Honduras; Mérida (MID), Oaxaca (OAX), Tuxtla (TGZ), and Cancun (CUN) in Mexico; and San Salvador (SAL) and Belize (BZE) in El Salvador and Belize, respectively.
The Impressive Fleet of TAG Airlines
TAG Airlines possesses one of the most intriguing fleets in Latin American aviation. It currently operates eight Saab 340A aircraft, making it the sole regional operator of this turboprop aircraft. According to ch-aviation, TAG Airlines holds the distinction of being the largest Saab operator worldwide. Other operators of Saab aircraft include Pacific Coastal Airlines, SprintAir, and Western Air Bahamas.
Furthermore, TAG Airlines operates two ATR 72-500s and one Embraer E145LR. The airline plans to expand its fleet this year and has already announced the impending arrival of a third ATR 72-500 in the following month. Moreover, a fourth ATR turboprop will soon join the company's fleet.
