Guatemalan Athletes Embark on Journey to Paris 2024 Olympic Games
With less than 12 days remaining until the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the excitement and anticipation are palpable as the Guatemalan delegation begins their journey. The Guatemalan Olympic Committee (COG) has confirmed that three of the 14 qualified athletes are already en route to the French capital, where they aim to showcase their prowess in their respective disciplines.
Guatemala will compete in seven sports categories at the Olympics: athletics, swimming, judo, badminton, modern pentathlon, sailing, and shooting. Expectations are high as the nation rallies behind its 14 athletes, hoping to see the bicolor flag proudly represented on the podium. The athletes aim not only to perform well but also to achieve remarkable milestones on the global stage.
Early Departures and Intensive Preparations
Sophia Hernández, a modern pentathlon athlete, was the first to depart from Guatemala for France on Wednesday, July 10. She is accompanied by her coach, Walid Sayed, who will oversee her training regimen. Hernández will also participate in a preparation camp in Noyon, France, which is crucial for her preparation for the Olympics. The COG is providing financial support for her training.
On July 13, swimming athletes Lucero Mejía and Erick Gordillo also embarked on their journey to France. Their departure was marked by a heartfelt farewell at La Aurora International Airport, where they were seen off by their families and friends.
