Higher education students will continue to access hostel accommodations
The Government, in collaboration with Movijovem and INATEL, is set to renew a protocol that will provide higher education students with continued access to hostel accommodations.
The agreement, which will be signed on Wednesday, allows for the allocation of 673 beds in Youth Hostels and an additional 36 beds from the INATEL network across various regions in Portugal.
The accommodations will be available in multiple cities, including Aveiro, Coimbra, Lisbon, Porto, and others. This initiative is part of the National Plan for Higher Education Accommodation and aims to alleviate the shortage of housing options for students, which has become a significant issue in recent years.
With average rents reaching 386 euros in Porto and 480 euros in Lisbon, the cost of accommodation is the largest expense for many students, according to the Directorate-General for Higher Education's Survey on Socioeconomic and Academic Conditions of Higher Education Students.
This program is designed to help mitigate these costs and provide more affordable housing options for students across the country.
