Hug wins 1500m event at World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Dubai
Hug, who is known as the Silver Bullet, was among the star names competing at the Dubai Club for People with Determination.
The six-time Paralympic gold medallist earned victory in a time of 2min 54.74sec, with the top four separated by less than a second.
Thailand’s Prawat Wahoram and Putharet Khongrak tied for second place after stopping the clock at 2:55.54.
Britain’s Daniel Sidbury missed out on a podium finish by ending fourth in 2:55.70.
Hug will seek a second victory later in the Grand Prix event when he contests the 5,000m.
The women’s T54 1500m wheelchair event saw Germany’s Merle Marie Menje hold off Swiss competition to triumph in 3:29.72.
Switzerland’s Alexandra Helbling and Patricia Eachus earned the remaining podium spots in 3:29.97 and 3:30.00 respectively.
Tunisia’s Walid Ktila and Britain’s Hannah Cockroft earned their second wins of the Grand Prix, following the 800m success yesterday.
Five-time Paralympic gold medallist Ktila won the men’s T33/34 100m wheelchair event in 15.25, while seven-time Paralympic champion Cockroft triumphed in the women’s race in 17.36.
Britain’s Emmanual Oyinbo-Coker and Ola Abidogun achieved a one-two in the men’s T47 100m, ending in times of 11.42 and 11.55.
Thailand’s Pongsakom Paeyo won the men’s T53 wheelchair 100m race by finishing in 14.43, with his compatriot Athiwat Paeng-Nuea securing the T54 title in 14.05
