Hugo Illera declares himself against the comparisons between Andrà©s Gà³mez and Faustino Asprilla
During the Betplay II League, the name of Andrés Gómez has been put on the lips of all Colombian sports journalism. The Chocoano midfielder at the service of Millonarios has become the great revelation of the Betplay League and has led to certain journalists nicknamed him 'Tinito' in games, alluding to Faustino el Tino Asprilla for his physical resemblance, but also for virtues in his game such as speed or his ability to define in front of the rival goal.
Although among some journalists and part of the usual followers of Colombian soccer the nickname has 'stuck', there are others who do not share that point of view. The main reason is that it generates an expectation and pressure on these young promises at a very young age that is not always fulfilled, because instead of following their natural development as athletes they are limited by that figure from the past with which they are compared.
This topic was the subject of discussion during the program 'Co Conexión Deportes' on the Win Sports channel. Although he did not refer directly to Gómez or Asprilla, the journalist Hugo Illera addressed the issue of comparing young soccer players at an early age with established figures and is opposed to this practice.
