Diego Maradona has spoken of his intention to be a candidate for the next Fifa presidential election.
The Argentine legend told Uruguayan journalist Victor Hugo Morales of his plans to run football’s governing body once Sepp Blatter leaves.
‘He told me he was going to run for president of FIFA and authorised me to inform,’ Morales posted in Spanish on Twitter.
‘”I am a candidate” were the two words Diego Maradona used to answer me when I consulted him about the nomination for the presidency of Fifa.’
The former Argentina player and coach, 54, will battle with Brazilian legend Zico for the job.

The duo may struggle, however, to get support of federations from five countries, as required under Fifa statutes.
Liberia Football Association Chairman Musa Bility is the other candidate to have announced their intention to run.
The election is likely to take place either at the end of this year or early in 2016.
If the World Cup winner was elected, you can be sure it would be entertaining if nothing else.
