Inauguration of the first Qom Community and Indigenous Internet Access Network
“We are receiving such an important value for the society of Benjamín Aceval and it comes from the Qom people” the community teacher Lic. Cesar Arguello told those present enthusiastically.
With greater goals than had been programmed, NANUM Mujeres Conectadas in Paraguay inaugurated not only the NANUM Center for Digital Inclusion, but also managed to scale to a network of six connectivity points in the communities of Santa Rosa, Rio Verde, Rosarino and Santa Lucía.
“It is the work of Qom women. We want to show that we can work together, we can work together to strengthen our identity, say that the indigenous peoples are going to continue and through the internet we are going to strengthen our identity”, Bernarda Pesoa, leader of the Qom community, spoke with emotion.
It is the first QOM Community Indigenous Network and NANUM Digital Inclusion Center in the community of Santa Rosa (President Hayes Department) that will grant access to connectivity at six strategic points in the community.
“With the support of ISOC today we are connecting the digital inclusion center, two schools, the family health unit, the Indigenous Education Area, the Santa Lucia artisan center and the community kitchen. It is a sustainable and viable model to reach the Gran Chaco Americano with meaningful connectivity. We are working on five other centers in coordination with MITIC within the Digital Agenda”, says Mariana Franco, Manager of NANUM Paraguay and a member of the SUNU Group, who implement the initiative in this country.
