Chile is a beautiful country that has millions of visitors per year. It is one of the safest countries in Latin America to visit. In fact, in 2022, it was #55 on the Global Peace Index.
Although Chile is a safe place, it’s always a good idea to be aware of the civil unrest going on in the country. It’s important to watch the advisories and news updates to increase the likelihood of protection against any complications going on in the country. One thing to be aware of is the regular protests that occur throughout the country.
The country is fairly safe for tourists because of its low crime rate, but tourists may run into petty crimes, like pickpockets, robberies (armed and vehicular), scamming, and bag snatching in common market areas or when using public transportation. It’s always advised to keep your valuables close or don’t bring them at all when traveling and try to keep large amounts of cash at a minimum.
