Jacinda Ardern Former New Zealand Prime Minister is set to attend US Democratic National Convention
Former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is set to attend the Democratic National Convention, which begins on Monday in Chicago. This confirmation comes from Ardern's spokesperson, who also mentioned that Ardern would be participating in a side event at the convention.
The four-day convention will celebrate the nomination of Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, following President Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the race. The event is expected to attract thousands of attendees, showcasing strong support for Harris' unexpected rise to the nomination.
Ardern, who gained international recognition for her leadership on various issues—such as bringing her baby to a United Nations meeting, donning a hijab in solidarity after a massacre targeting Muslims, and her government's early success in managing the COVID-19 pandemic—stepped down as New Zealand's prime minister in early 2023. She cited exhaustion as the reason for her resignation, stating she had "no more in the tank."
Since stepping down, Ardern has kept a relatively low profile in New Zealand but has remained active on the global stage. She has undertaken two fellowships at Harvard, joined the board of trustees of the Earthshot Prize, and serves as the patron of the Christchurch Call Foundation, which focuses on combating online extremism.
