The awarding of the doctorate honoris causa of the Wrocław university took place on Monday in the Aula Leopoldina of the University of Wrocław , on the musician's 87th birthday .
In the resolution of the Senate of the Academy of Music Karola Lipiński in Wrocław, it was emphasized that Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski received an honorary doctorate " in recognition of his outstanding artistic achievements in the field of jazz music " and for " creative contribution and special merits for the development of musical culture and artistic life and for the promotion of Polish jazz music abroad ". as well as in recognition of "for many years of activities to promote knowledge of jazz music."
Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski was born in 1936 in Kalisz. He is a jazz musician, composer, arranger, conductor, journalist and music critic. He plays tenor and baritone saxophones.
He founded several bands and was involved in many musical projects. He performed in the United States, then in Europe, India, Africa and Asia. In 1968-78 he managed the Jazz Studio of the Polish Radio. Cooperation with Willis Conover, popularizer of Jazz, in Radio Music USA resulted in the creation of the radio program "Three Quarters of Jazz", which he has been conducting continuously since 1970 on Channel III of the Polish Radio.
