Japan Real Estate Round-Up: Winter Season 2022/23
Back in Autumn 2022, everyone was scratching their heads as the Japanese government struggled to work out how to open their borders effectively… and then it happened! Ever since the announcement in October last year that most international tourists could enter as normal, the floodgates opened.
Powder-seekers, sushi-dreamers and onsen-lovers began booking their tickets and crashing accommodation websites! “Even at Uchi, which is focused on providing seamless access to real estate listings from across Japan, traffic to our site dramatically increased once people realised they would be able to come back into Japan again,” says Chris – founder of Uchijapan.com.
“After two and a half quiet years, the resorts around Japan were buzzing with international visitors again. At the same time the real estate market awoke with a bang. We estimate that there have been over 200 transactions in Japan’s top ski resorts alone this winter, with everyone remembering why this country is so special, especially when it is covered in that amazing powder snow!
“Bookings for next winter have already opened and with early demand strong it is exciting to see the parallel interest in real estate. With some incredible new developments in Hokkaido available for investment alongside the strong secondary market across the country, we expect the next 12 months to be busier than ever!
