Kenya Signs First Ever Economic Partnership Deal with UK
The partnership deal saw the UK become the first country outside Africa to enter a trade agreement with Kenya. The UK-Kenya Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), which came into force in March 2021, ensures that all companies operating in Kenya, including British businesses, can continue to benefit from duty-free access to the UK market.
This saves exporters over KSh 1.5 billion (£10 million) every year in duties on products such as green beans and cut flowers. The deal aimed to secure jobs, increase economic growth, and support Kenya's agricultural development and manufacturing.
