Kristen Stewart to Star in A24's New Romantic Thriller
Kristen Stewart is set to star in the new romantic thriller Love Lies Bleeding from A24, directed and co-written by Rose Glass, the British filmmaker behind 2021's religious horror film Saint Maud. Glass' feature film debut was loved more by critics than general audiences, but its thoughtful rumination on trauma and religion earned her a British Independent Film Award. This new film will be one of the first roles for Stewart after playing Princess Diana in the 2021 biopic Spencer, which earned Stewart her first Best Actress nominations at the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards. Her recent foray into portraying British royalty on screen followed a string of roles that continue to propel Stewart away from her role as Bella Swan in the Twilight films and into more dramatic roles that garner critical acclaim.
A24 and Film4 announced that Stewart and Glass would team up for the romantic thriller Love Lies Bleeding, centered around the intense world of competitive bodybuilding. Stewart's character is described as the "protective lover of a female bodybuilder." That role, which is the film's lead, has yet to be cast. The film will be directed by Glass, who has co-written the script alongside Weronika Tofilska, a writer who has previously only worked on short films. A24 will finance the movie alongside Film4, the feature division of the U.K.'s television network Channel Four.
