A whole new coaching staff is needed for the L-P varsity boys basketball team.
Jim Cherveny and his three assistant coaches John Riva, Jens Soderholm and Randy Koehler have submitted their resignations which will be accepted at Wednesday night's L-P board meeting. Cherveny says each coach made their own decision and it wasn't a coordinated call to all resign.
As for his decision to resign, Cherveny says it's about being a dad and a husband. He has three young daughters that he wants to spend more time with and in doing so relieve some of his wife's stress when he's away for basketball.
Cherveny says the administration including Superintendent Dr. Steven Wrobleski have provided great support and understand his decision to resign.
He spent 12 years as the head varsity coach compiling a record of 161 wins and 164 losses. Cherveny does say that he's not ready to close the book on being a coach.
