Learn how to keep your mobile devices secure
According to ESET's Security Report for Latin America, published in July this year, only 10% of more than 1,800 technology professionals and company managers who participated in the study said they adopt any cybersecurity application for mobile devices.
For the Support and Training Manager of ESET Venezuela, Calos López, this low percentage of adoption of security solutions among Latin Americans is due to false beliefs, "such as that mobile devices are safer than desktop computers."
“The opposite happens, because given the boom in the use of these devices, malicious software creators develop more viruses for themselves than for fixed equipment. And attackers are always going to make the most of their victims' vulnerabilities,” he said.
López explained that the risks of not protecting cell phones, tablets and other electronic devices with a cybersecurity application range from “the disabling of the device, the loss or theft of information, as well as access to service passwords, mobile banking, among others. ”
“We must be responsible with our information because there is the possibility of spreading these viruses or malicious codes among our personal and corporate contacts,” warned López, who pointed out that threats are not always noticeable or visible: “not all these types of software slow down the devices".
How to be prepared for these attacks?
Some basic recommendations to protect your electronic devices are:
· Avoid accessing public wireless networks.
· Lock your devices and use two-factor authentication. Update applications and operating systems.
