Madrid opens its largest book fair of the 21st century
The 81st edition of the Madrid Book Fair will take place for 17 days, this time, without capacity limits or space restrictions as it did in 2021 due to the COVID pandemic.
This cultural event, which takes place in the emblematic Parque del Retiro in the Spanish capital, promises to be historic. “After two exceptional editions, -one virtual and the other with capacity restrictions- make the 81st edition of the fair similar as we are used to. We could say that we are back to normal, but what we have prepared is an exceptional fair thanks to an exercise of generosity by the exhibitors, that we as organization sincerely appreciate: never before in the 21st century there were so many booths (378 ) nor so many participants (423), between bookstores in the Community of Madrid, and publishers from all over Spain”, said the director of the fair Eva Orué at the opening of the Book Fair.
Since the event will be the largest so far this century, the organization hopes to exceed the number of two million visitors registered in the 2019 edition.
This year, for 17 days, those who attend the Book Fair will be able to participate in more than 300 events to meet their reference authors. Bookstores and publishers anticipate at least 5,000 signing sessions.
The program also includes concerts, seminars, debates, literary contests, workshops, and free guided tours of the renowned Madrid park.
This year, the most important fair in Spain for the publishing sector will also present a podcast called "Destino Feria", available on the Podimo platform. Throughout 26 episodes, this podcast invites people to take a historical and playful tour of the publishing scene, genres, styles and trends through interviews with translators, editors and writers.
