Malaysia Airlines Resumes Direct Flights from KL to Kolkata After 18 Years
Malaysia Airlines has announced the resumption of its direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Kolkata, India, after an 18-year hiatus. This move is part of the airline's expansion plans in the Indian market and comes on the heels of its successful daily operations to Amritsar, which commenced in September.
The decision to reintroduce the Kuala Lumpur-Kolkata direct flight route reflects the growing demand for travel between India and Malaysia. This move is expected to enhance connectivity and boost tourism for both destinations, strengthening Malaysia Airlines' position as a gateway to Asia.
Starting December 2, 2024, Malaysia Airlines will operate five weekly flights on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. A Boeing 737-800 aircraft will be used for the four-hour flights. The flight schedule is as follows:
- Inaugural Flight MH184 will depart Kuala Lumpur at 9:35 pm
- Return flight MH185 will leave Kolkata at 12:10 am
To celebrate the resumption of flights, Malaysia Airlines is offering an "Time for Kolkata" campaign from October 8 to November 8, 2024. Introductory fares start at RM 1,499 for all-inclusive return Economy Class tickets for travel after December 2, 2024.
With the resumption of Kolkata flights, Malaysia Airlines will now offer direct connections to Malaysia from 10 Indian cities, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Amritsar, Trivandrum, and Ahmedabad. The airline plans to operate around 76 weekly flights between the two countries.
Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, is a major tourist hub in India, offering attractions such as Victoria Memorial, Science City, Jorsanko Thakurbari, Fort William, Kalighat Mandir, and Alipore Zoological Garden. Kuala Lumpur, one of the most popular cities in Asia, boasts attractions like KLCC Park, Petronas Twin Tower, KL Bird Park, Dataran Merdeka, Batu Caves, KL Forest Eco Park, Aquaria KLCC, Tugu Negara, Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park, and Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia.
The resumption of direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Kolkata is expected to boost tourism and economic ties between the two countries, providing travelers with more convenient and accessible options for exploring these vibrant cities.
