Malta Airport Recognized Among the Best European Airports
For the seventh consecutive year, Malta International Airport has been honored by the Airports Council International (ACI) as one of the best airports in Europe for quality of service among those catering to between five and 15 million passengers annually. This recognition is based on passenger feedback collected through the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) program, which evaluates 367 airports across 95 countries.
Alan Borg, the Executive Head of Malta Airport, expressed pride in the achievement, noting that the airport handled an unprecedented nine million passengers in a year. He emphasized that the high-quality service provided reflects the commitment of all employees to deliver the best possible experience for travelers. Despite record traffic and ongoing major infrastructural projects, the airport team remained focused on ensuring a positive and efficient service for all visitors.
The airport received an impressive overall satisfaction score of 4.39 out of 5 from passengers, which contributed to its high ranking among 119 airports participating in the ASQ program. The evaluation considered a majority average of 34 prestigious indicators, including the terminal environment, cleanliness, staff assistance, and road facilities for accessing the airport. These elements are crucial in providing passengers with a smooth and enjoyable travel experience.
In addition to the award recognition, Malta International Airport reported strong traffic results for February, with a total of 560,553 passengers traveling through the airport. This figure represents an 18.2% increase compared to the same month last year. The airport also experienced a 21.1% rise in passenger accommodation on flights, with an occupancy factor of 80.5%.
The primary markets for passenger travel remained consistent, with Italy leading at 19.2% of passenger traffic, followed closely by the United Kingdom at 18.3%. Other significant markets included Poland (11.4%), Germany (7.1%), and Spain (6.2%).
Overall, Malta International Airport's continued recognition for quality service and its impressive traffic growth highlight its importance as a key player in the European aviation landscape.
