Marcel Ciolacu does not support merging local and parliamentary elections in 2024
The president of the PSD, Marcel Ciolacu, stated on Monday evening that there is enough time to make a decision related to combining the elections, but he does not support it, pointing out that "it is not good for democracy either".
"There are discussions, I don't think they can (comase - no), the MEPs are excluded from merging with something, because they are much earlier. My opinion is that the local elections cannot be constitutionally combined with the general elections, we will see, we will have the discussion within each party", said Marcel Ciolacu, on Antena 3, according to agerpres.ro .
Ciolacu does not agree with the liberals' proposal regarding merging local and parliamentary elections in 2024, considering that it is not constitutional.
Asked if he would support combining local and general elections, the PSD leader denied, stressing that it is not constitutionally possible. "No, but it cannot be done constitutionally. (…) It's a decision that we have enough time to make. I don't think it's good for democracy either, to be fair. It is right for each of us to think about what is best for democracy, not only what we live in real time, but also what follows after the decisions we make", said the PSD leader.
Ciolacu also showed that he is not in favor of consolidating the elections even if this would be constitutional, and this topic does not represent a critical moment for the coalition. Read More…
