Marvel Pokemon GO game, World of Heroes, now available in Australia
Niantic, the developer behind Pokemon GO, has quietly released its latest augmented reality game, Marvel World of Heroes, as a free-to-play title in Australia. Set in the Marvel comic book universe, the game puts players in the role of an accidental hero who must join forces with renowned Marvel characters, eliminate crime in their neighborhoods, and take on supervillains. Marvel World of Heroes is now available for download on the iOS App Store and Google Play Store in Australia.
The soft launch of Marvel World of Heroes in Australia follows closely after Niantic's global release of Peridot, a game inspired by Tamagotchi. By patrolling their surroundings, players will encounter groups of enemies, engaging them in cinematic turn-based battles with impressive animations.

The combat system is straightforward. Each character possesses an armor meter and a health meter, requiring players to strategically employ a combination of ranged and melee attacks to gradually defeat their adversaries. During battles, players can bring two teammates into the fight. The game prominently features newer Marvel heroes such as Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan), and America Chavez, but beloved characters like Wolverine, Iron Man, Venom, and others are also available to unlock as players progress.
Progression in the game revolves around a gacha/loot box system. These randomly reward players with in-game currency, weapons, costume parts, and health replenishment, enabling them to continue their battles. Loot boxes can be obtained after various battles, but they require keys to unlock. These keys are gradually obtained over time or can be purchased from the in-game store.
Based on initial impressions, Marvel World of Heroes appears to be a more immersive and action-packed take on Niantic's augmented reality game concepts. Given the immense popularity of Marvel properties, it is likely that the company has high expectations for the game's success upon its global release.
It's important to note, however, that Niantic's previous venture into the Harry Potter universe, Wizards Unite, was discontinued after just three years of operation. On the other hand, Pokemon GO continues to thrive years after its initial surge in popularity. According to a recent report from Mobilegamer, Niantic's monthly revenue from Pokemon GO reached its lowest point in April, reportedly amounting to $34.7 million. Niantic, however, has disputed this claim, stating that their revenue for 2023 has increased compared to the previous year, as told to Eurogamer.
