Online gaming platforms like The Sandbox, Fortnite, and Roblox provide intricately social metaverse-like experiences. Virtual collaboration platforms like Microsoft’s Mesh are committed to creating three-dimensional virtual workspaces to enrich remote collaborations.
We’ve seen other metaverse applications too, like virtual concerts, changing rooms, and real estate.
The inclination to dismiss the metaverse as just another passing fad derives from, assumedly, limited knowledge of the metaverse’s decades-long conceptualization. According to a recent poll, only 35% of Gen Xers and 17% of Boomers were somewhat familiar with the metaverse.
Couple this with the fact that “the metaverse” is a notoriously vague concept that lacks concrete definition, and it’s easy to see why it might be written off.
