Metro Manila Film Festival Extended Until January 14
The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has announced an extension of its theatrical run, allowing audiences to enjoy the official entries until January 14 in select cinemas. Originally scheduled to conclude on January 7, the festival will now continue for an additional week due to overwhelming public support.
Don Artes, the overall chair of the MMFF and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic response to the festival's 50th edition. “We, at the MMFF, are overwhelmed with the continued support of the public for the festival’s 50th edition. Due to public clamor, we have decided to extend the theatrical run of the MMFF movies to further showcase the locally produced films that are truly impressive and artistically excellent,” he stated in a news release.
In addition to the extension, complimentary passes will also be honored until January 14, making it easier for more viewers to experience the diverse offerings of Philippine cinema.
Artes conveyed optimism regarding the festival's financial performance, hoping that the earnings from the 2024 MMFF will continue to rise. Organized by the MMDA, the MMFF aims to promote and preserve Philippine cinema, with proceeds benefiting various organizations within the film industry. These include the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation, the Film Academy of the Philippines, the Motion Picture Anti-Film Piracy Council, the Optical Media Board, and the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
The extension of the MMFF not only highlights the importance of supporting local filmmakers but also provides an opportunity for audiences to engage with the rich storytelling and artistic talent present in the Philippine film industry.
