Mikuláš Dzurinda appointed the joint candidate from Blue - European Slovakia and Most-Híd Party
The political parties Blue - European Slovakia and Most-Híd have decided to form a joint candidate for the upcoming September parliamentary elections. They have begun the preparations today, and the leader of this joint candidate will be Mikuláš Dzurinda, the head of the Blues. László Sólymos, the chairman of Most-Híd, will be the second-in-command. They are also open to including other political parties in the Modrí – Most-Híd candidate, and the final composition will be known on July 2.
During a press conference, Dzurinda stated that they have not ruled out Eduard Heger from the Democrats, but they are currently not engaged in any formal negotiations with another political party. Dzurinda believes that their support will increase and sees the upcoming elections as a crucial moment for Slovakia. He believes that the outcome will determine the path the country takes. Dzurinda mentioned that they have consulted with Mečiar and will also consult with Fico. However, the situation is more complicated now as they aim to avoid a relapse represented by Fico, while also preventing the continuation of the chaos that previously prevailed. He mentioned that a joint election program is being prepared. Dzurinda emphasized that during his previous terms, his governments included three ministers of Hungarian nationality in the first one, and even four in the second. He praised their exceptional performance.
Sólymos expressed the importance of ensuring that people's anger and frustration are not exploited to steer Slovakia in the wrong direction. He emphasized the need to protect Slovakia's Euro-Atlantic orientation, and who better to do so than those who led the country into the European Union. He also highlighted the significance of revitalizing the economy, which was successfully accomplished once before in 1998 after Mečiar's era. Sólymos concluded that Mikuláš Dzurinda is the right partner to foster constructive political debates. He mentioned that Béla Bugár, the former chairman of Mosta-Híd, will not be running as he has decided to focus on his family. However, he stated that the alliance between both parties will be supportive and contribute to the campaign.
Most-Híd's main priority is the development of neglected regions, which, according to Sólymos, cannot be achieved without strengthening the country's economy. He identified the knowledge of minority policy, with education and culture as the main focus, as one of Most-Híd's strengths. Sólymos stated their commitment to promoting a fund for the modernization of national schools and continuing discussions on a comprehensive law regarding the status of national minorities in Slovakia. In summary, their aim is to establish a economically stable Slovakia that knows its place in the world and remains competitive, appealing to both foreign investors and domestic entrepreneurs.
