Monsoon health tips: How to take care of your ears during rainy season
While long heatwaves continue, this year’s monsoon is eagerly awaited in many parts of the country. While rain is said to bring relief from the scorching heat, it also increases the risk of microbial infections. Fungal infections are common in the monsoons and can affect the ears as well as the skin and eyes. The contaminated rainwater can get into the ears and cause fungal infections.
“Too much moisture can be a breeding ground for bacteria that cause fungal infections. Ear debris and earplug bruising can also leave you vulnerable to ear infections, Apollo Spectra specialist Ankit Jain told HT Digital.
Causes of Ear Infections
dr Jain says the other causes of infection can be due to the common cold or flu, and even allergies. “In addition, bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae are factors behind bacterial ear infections. Although cases of bacterial infection occur year-round, there is a steep increase during the rainy season,” says the expert.
