More than USD 109 million approved by the CNE for the 2023 elections
A total of USD 109,344,945 is the budget required for the Sectional Elections and the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control ( Cpccs ) of 2023.
That was the figure approved on the night of this Wednesday, March 2, 2022 by the Plenary of the National Electoral Council ( CNE ), in its 12th ordinary session.
According to the electoral body, the budget "responds to the economic situation of the country, but without compromising the quality or transparency of the 2023 Sectional Elections."
The approved budget includes the renovation and repowering of computer equipment, as well as the implementation of 38 mandatory debates in 21 cantons and 17 provinces for the dignities of mayors and prefects.
It also covers what is required for telematic voting in 37 Consular Offices in 26 countries, biosafety kit and disbursements to the National Police and the Armed Forces.
The budget is distributed for the following items: USD 91,610,794 for different activities and personnel, USD 841,363 for debates, USD 4,694,856 for the renewal of computer equipment, USD 871,452 for the implementation of telematic voting, USD 7,763,380 for the Armed Forces, USD 3,216,691 for National Police personnel and USD 346,409 for biosafety kits.
