Moroccan flatbread, the right side for a tagine dish

Moroccan cuisine offers a variety of delicious flatbreads that pair wonderfully with tagine dishes. Here's a traditional Moroccan flatbread recipe that complements the flavors of tagine:

Moroccan Flatbread Recipe

Ingredients:

- 3 cups all-purpose flour

- 1 teaspoon salt

- 1 teaspoon sugar

- 1 tablespoon instant yeast

- 1 cup warm water

- 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions:

Prepare the Dough:

- In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and instant yeast.

- Make a well in the center and add the warm water and olive oil.

- Mix together until a dough forms.

Knead the Dough:

- Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.

Shape the Flatbreads:

- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and place a baking stone or inverted baking sheet inside to heat.

- Punch down the dough and divide it into 6 equal portions.

- On a lightly floured surface, roll out each portion into a circle or oval shape, about 1/4 inch thick.

Bake the Flatbreads:

- Carefully transfer each rolled-out flatbread onto the preheated baking stone or baking sheet.

- Bake for 6-8 minutes, or until the flatbreads puff up and the bottoms are golden brown.

- Remove from the oven and brush the tops with a little olive oil or melted butter, if desired.
