Moroccan Gas Stations Demand Government Support Over Fuel Price Hike
Morocco’s National Federation of Gas Stations’ Owners, Salesmen, and Managers have demanded government support amid the ongoing surge in fuel prices.

Gas stations owners have been forced to take out loans to cover the surging expenses, the federation said on Monday in a press release.
Now the federation is urging the Moroccan government to take measures to “support enterprises in the sector and ensure energy supply in the country” with companies seeing a fall in their profits.
The lobby group also demanded greater regulation in the sector, accusing energy suppliers of selling fuel outside gas stations to other energy traders, causing the national treasury tremendous financial losses.
Morocco is keen to adopt sustainable and clean energy sources, with the country’s gas station operators worried about their future. They have demanded the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development to resume discussions with them on the future of the sector and their professions.

The federation’s demands come days after the Moroccan government announced the launch of a financial support program to alleviate the effects of rising fuel prices on transport operators.
The beneficiaries of the scheme include professionals operating in the sectors of public transport, tourism, transit, freight transport, and school and personnel transport.
