Mountain Province State Polytechnic College to become Mountain Province State University
Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC), the only public higher education institution in Mountain Province, has officially been elevated to university status. The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) announced the transition on Tuesday, August 27, confirming that MPSPC will now be known as Mountain Province State University (MPSU).
This upgrade follows the signing of Republic Act No. 12016 by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on August 1, which mandated the change. CHED's decision came after a comprehensive evaluation by its Composite Team, which assessed the institution's enrollment figures, academic programs, faculty qualifications, research capabilities, learning resources, support structures, and community outreach efforts.
MPSPC currently serves around 5,000 students each semester and offers 23 undergraduate and six graduate programs. CHED Chairman Prospero de Vera III highlighted that the designation as a university is granted only to higher educational institutions that have proven their excellence in instruction, research, and extension services.
The successful conversion of MPSPC into a state university represents the fulfillment of a 15-year endeavor by the institution to reach this milestone.
