National Football Team on a Paved Road to European Championship
According to an analysis conducted by Gracenote, a statistics company, the Hungarian football team has a high probability of 80 percent to qualify for the upcoming tournament, which will take place next year, before the European Championship qualifiers in June.
In their previous forecast released in March, Gracenote had predicted a 74 percent chance for Marco Rossi's team to reach the finals of the tournament. However, this value has increased even further following their impressive 3-0 victory over Bulgaria in a home match.
Gracenote's analysis indicates that six teams are nearly guaranteed to secure their spots in the tournament. The Swiss, Portuguese, and French teams have already achieved 100 percent odds after two matches, giving them a 98 percent chance of qualifying. Similarly, the English and Belgians have a 97 percent probability, while the top-ranked Serbian team, which shares the same group as Hungary, has a 96 percent likelihood of qualifying for the tournament in Germany.
As the host country, Germany automatically qualifies for the 2024 European Championship. The top two teams from each of the ten qualifying groups will directly qualify through matches, with the remaining three spots being determined in the knockout stages.
The Hungarian team's next challenge awaits them in their match against Montenegro on Saturday. Ádám Lang, the central defender of the national team, anticipates a difficult battle in Montenegro. However, he believes that if the Hungarian team remains focused, they can secure three points in the European Championship qualifier. Lang expressed his thoughts during a press conference on Monday, stating, "We will face challenges posed by the opponent's style of play and the players' character. We must handle any potential disturbances and provocations without losing our composure. It's crucial that we stick to our own game plan and maintain competitiveness throughout the matches. I am confident that we will achieve that," said the experienced national team defender, who has represented Hungary 57 times.
Lang emphasized the importance of communication on the field and described it as a responsibility. He mentioned that the team has developed a strong sense of unity and emphasized the significance of supporting each other, as every small detail can make a difference.
The Hungarian squad is almost complete, with the exception of Dániel Gazdag, the forward from the Philadelphia Union, who missed his flight after the weekend's game. Gazdag is expected to join the training camp in Telki on Tuesday.
Hungary's Group G team, which began their qualifying campaign in March, will face Podgorica in an away match on Saturday, followed by a home game against Lithuania at Puskás Arena three days later.
