National gov't, Governors pledge to work together for devolution sake
The National and County governments have pledged to work together to boost devolution even as the two factions push for a workable revenue allocation formula.
In a joint communique issued by the National executive and the Council of Governors (COG), the two levels of government made a resolve to review all laws that impede devolution.
“All the existing inter-governmental legal cases by one level of government against the other level of government shall be subjected to Alternative Dispute Resolution as provided for under the intergovernmental Relations Act, 2012 through the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC),” CoG Chair Anne Waiguru said
“KRA shall withdraw all matters against county governments from court and seek alternative dispute resolution,” she added
Waiguru spoke after the end of the second day of the 9th National and County governments coordinating summit which brought together President William Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, IGRTC and County Governors.
“I’m willing to work with every county governor in areas where you are experiencing difficulties in collection of revenue so that we can reduce the pressure on what we are sharing on the national level so that some of the intervention you are planning to do can be done in counties,” President Ruto said
The national government committed to allocate an additional Ksh100 million each as grants in the 2023/24 financial year to operationalise the national government’s programme on aggregated industrial parks. Read More…
