Nebius to Triple Capacity at Finnish Data Centre for AI Workloads
Nebius is set to significantly enhance its data centre capabilities in Mäntsälä, Finland, by tripling its capacity to support the growing demands of artificial intelligence (AI) workloads. This expansion is part of Nebius' ambitious plan to invest over $1 billion in improving AI infrastructure across Europe by mid-2025.
Andrey Korolenko, head of infrastructure at Nebius, emphasized the importance of this expansion, stating, “Tripling capacity at our flagship site in Finland is an important step in our build-out of best-in-class AI infrastructure in Europe.” The Mäntsälä data centre serves as Nebius' "home base," showcasing the company's technical capabilities and commitment to sustainability in its infrastructure development.
As part of the expansion, Nebius plans to add approximately 60,000 GPUs, starting with the deployment of Nvidia H200 GPUs in November. Additionally, the company will introduce Nvidia’s upcoming Blackwell GPUs, which are expected to be available for customer workloads beginning in 2025. The Mäntsälä site currently operates with Nvidia H100 GPUs, which are described as the "backbone" of Nebius' hardware fleet.
Korolenko noted that the additional capacity will enable Nebius to better serve the increasing demand from AI builders worldwide. The expansion reflects the company's strategic focus on enhancing its infrastructure to support the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
In addition to the developments in Finland, Nebius is actively pursuing opportunities to establish data centres on greenfield sites across Europe. Recently, the company opened a new GPU cluster in Paris, France, aimed at supporting customers in training and running inference for AI models. This move underscores Nebius' commitment to expanding its footprint in the European AI infrastructure market.
