NESA to begin addressing petitions for change of school placement
The National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) has announced that it will begin addressing petitions from students seeking changes in their school placements. Responses to requests for boarding schools and subject combination changes will be issued between September 13 and 17.
NESA reported a total of 45,963 appeals, including 45,771 related to placements, 126 for ID corrections, and 66 concerning marks. However, the authority noted that currently, there are no identified vacant spots in schools. NESA is awaiting the completion of student attendance reports to determine any remaining available spaces. Once confirmed, students will be assigned to schools with vacancies.
Bernard Bahati, Director General of NESA, explained that delays in confirming student attendance may affect the speed of the process. He reassured students that once available spots are identified, they will promptly relocate students who applied for transfers. While acknowledging the challenges faced by students still waiting at home, Bahati emphasized the need to wait for final school reports before making placements.
NESA also started responding to students who applied for transfers to day schools. In a statement, the authority reassured applicants that responses would be delivered soon to those who submitted their applications and received confirmation but have not yet been notified.
This process follows complaints from some Senior 3 students who were placed in government schools that did not align with their academic strengths or assigned to subject combinations in which they previously struggled.
