NetEase opens new studio in Canada, Bad Brain Game Studios
NetEase has established another innovative studio in the Western market, aptly named Bad Brain Game Studios. This newly formed company will operate from offices situated in Toronto and Montreal, offering a flexible work environment that combines in-office and remote arrangements for its talented team.
The primary focus of Bad Brain is the creation of a remarkable and ambitious new franchise. Their initial project involves developing a captivating, story-driven open-world action-adventure game. Drawing inspiration from beloved cult films of the 1980s, this game will be crafted using the cutting-edge Unreal Engine 5.
Heading the team at Bad Brain is Sean Crooks, previously recognized as the lead producer at Ubisoft Toronto. Crooks boasts an impressive portfolio, having contributed to renowned titles such as Driver: San Francisco and the Watch Dogs series. The team consists of other skilled individuals who have also worked on these notable games, as well as titles like Far Cry 2, Just Dance, Army of Two, and various entries in the acclaimed Splinter Cell franchise.
NetEase's establishment of Bad Brain Game Studios marks its second venture into the Canadian market following the successful acquisition of SkyBox Labs in January. This latest addition to NetEase's expanding family of internal studios in the West, including Anchor Point Studios, Spliced, Jar of Sparks, and Jackalope Games (recently rebranded as Jackalyptic Games), reflects the company's commitment to fostering creative talent and driving innovation in the industry.
