Here’s a look at some of the most anticipated titles in Albanian entertainment!
1. Luli & Goni Lemes
Set to be released in April 2025, "Luli & Goni Lemes" is a "road trip" comedy directed by Klaudia Brahimaj. The film follows Gazi (Dejvis Myslymi), a typical mama's boy, and his authoritarian mother, Lemja (Aurela Gaçe), as they return from emigration in search of a traditional Albanian bride. Their plans take an unexpected turn when Luli (Margent Caushi), a comical and naive character, joins their journey. While Luli aims to assist, her antics often complicate matters further. The film promises to deliver laughs and heartwarming moments as the characters navigate their misadventures.
2. Nietzsche
Premiered on Top Channel in February 2025, "Niçe" is a comedy-action series inspired by the style of director Guy Ritchie. Produced by George Bazhaku, the series centers around Denis, also known as Niche, who embodies the role of an anti-hero. Lacking formal education, Niche compensates with street smarts and life lessons. The lead role is played by Brendi Bega, who also co-wrote the series. The cast features notable actors such as Egla Ceno, Kastro Zizo, and Ledion Liço. Aimed at adult audiences, "Niçe" is expected to air during late-night slots, promising a mix of humor and action.
3. Passports
"Passport," directed by Eduart Grishaj, hits theaters on January 17, 2025, at Cinplexx Teg. The film tells the gripping story of two young individuals, Edon and Vlera, who aspire to leave Albania illegally. They become entangled with a mafia group that offers to smuggle them to Canada using forged passports. As they face numerous challenges and develop a romantic relationship, the dangers surrounding them intensify. This marks Grishaj's third project, following his successful films "Grandma" and "Sofia." Known for tackling significant themes, Grishaj aims to bring a fresh perspective to Albanian cinema.
With a diverse lineup of films and series, 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Albanian cinema. From comedic road trips to action-packed series and poignant dramas, these new projects reflect the evolving landscape of storytelling in Albania. Audiences can look forward to engaging narratives that resonate with contemporary issues while providing entertainment and insight.
