New Hungarian Cargo Airline Set to Launch Operations in December
Hungary Cargo Airlines, established in May 2024, is on the verge of commencing operations, potentially starting its first flights in December. The airline is expected to receive its operating license soon, allowing it to utilize aircraft currently operated by Wizz Air, marking a significant development in Hungary's aviation sector.
According to reports from the specialist portal Cargo Facts, Hungary Airlines—previously known as Hungary Cargo Airlines (HCA)—is preparing to operate under its new name with an existing Airbus A330-200F freighter. This aircraft, built in 2014 and powered by Trent 700 engines, was purchased by the Hungarian government and has been operated by Wizz Air on the Budapest-Hangzhou route five times a week.
Despite the promising developments, Hungary Cargo Airlines has faced challenges in establishing its presence. Although the company began recruiting staff in the spring and has been working on its branding, its website currently lacks substantial information, with all relevant content removed. This has raised questions about the airline's readiness for its upcoming launch.
The airline's history dates back to its founding in spring 2021 as Universal Translink Airline Hungary. It officially adopted the name Hungary Cargo Airlines in May 2024. Recent reports indicate that HCA is now majority-owned by a Chinese-Hungarian investor, which may influence its operational strategies moving forward.
As the launch date approaches, the aviation community is keenly watching Hungary Airlines' progress, hoping for a successful entry into the cargo airline market. With the potential to leverage existing aircraft and routes, the new airline aims to carve out a niche in the competitive landscape of air cargo services.
