New local film starring SA acting veterans starts production in Cape Town
Hans Steek die Rubicon Oor, written by Rudi van Rensburg, tells the tale of Hans Kraaienburg, a sprightly 90-year-old man whose life is turned upside down when he is forced to move to an old age home.
The place where his daughter Karla sends him to is conservative and his room is cramped. He is also forced to follow their strick rules and regulations.
But with Hans around, chaos ensues, including dagga cookies, strippers and general mayhem.
The film is directed by Corné van Rooyen that was responsible for films like Hollywood in My Huis and Vaselinetjie as well as the popular TV series Alles Malan.
“There is so much pressure from society to stay young and therefore I am excited to show the other side,” Corné said in a statement to the media. “I want to show that growing old on your own terms should be celebrated and can be exciting. It is also an honour to work with some legendary South African actors that will help to bring Rudi’s book to life.”
Pierre van Pletzen takes on the lead role of Hans, Tobie Cronjé will be Vasie, June van Merch plays Baby, Sandra Prinsloo will be Liesbet and Nicola Hanekom is the strict matron. Diaan Lawrenson is Hans’ daughter Karla.
