Nokia And Swisscom develops drone network in Switzerland
Swisscom, a leading telecommunications company in Switzerland, is set to enhance a nationwide drone network designed for automated flights, with a focus on applications like infrastructure inspections, police operations, and large-area protection. To achieve this, Swisscom is partnering with Finland’s Nokia, which has experience in establishing similar drone networks, as demonstrated in Belgium.
Swisscom’s subsidiary, Swisscom Broadcast, announced that this new service, dubbed “Drone-in-a-Box,” will be launched in the autumn. It builds on an earlier offering introduced a year ago and aims to increase the availability and efficiency of drone applications for industrial and public safety purposes across the country.
The drones in this network will operate within the legal framework governing drone usage, including regulations on frequency usage and flight safety. However, financial details of Swisscom’s collaboration with Nokia were not disclosed.
