Not only musicians are affected by the call for censorship. For a long time some have tried to prevent the publication of books for various reasons.
"Mouse" by Art Spiegelman
The comic novel has long been regarded as a modern classic, as one of the most important confrontations with the Holocaust. Art Spiegelman won the Pulitzer Prize for the visually stunning epic. It still disappeared from American schools because of phrases like "God damn" and the drawing of a bare-breasted, suicidal mouse.
"Between Me and the World" by Ta-Nehisi Coates
The highly acclaimed book illuminates the relationship between white majority America and the Afro-American population in a way that is both profound and furious. The state of Texas decided that the book was unacceptable to local schools. It could trigger "discomfort, guilt and anxiety" in the students. ( js )
