Only 4 Bayern players called up for Germany's national team after poor season
Bayern Munich is already facing the repercussions of an underwhelming season, as evidenced by a significant decline in the number of their players selected for the national team.
Despite securing their 11th consecutive Bundesliga title, the Bavarians have failed to impress Germany's coach, Hansi Flick, in terms of overall quality.
Hansi Flick has called up only four Bayern Munich players for Germany's upcoming international matches in June, which mark the beginning of the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Among the chosen four are Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka, alongside attackers Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala. However, prominent figures like Serge Gnabry, Thomas Muller, and Manuel Neuer did not receive a call-up.
Germany is scheduled to face Colombia, Ukraine, and Poland in three friendly matches in June. The national team has already qualified for Euro 2024 as the host nation.
Notable absences from the German squad include Borussia Dortmund stars Nicklas Sule, Marko Reus, Youssoufa Moukoko, and Karim Adeyemi, who were not included in Hansi Flick's latest selection for the upcoming games.
Furthermore, players like Serge Gnabry, Christian Gunter, Mergim Berisha, Armel Bella-Kotchap, Felix Nmecha, and Mario Gotze were also omitted from the squad.
Manuel Neuer, Bayern's goalkeeper and captain, is currently sidelined due to a leg injury he sustained during the season while skiing.
On another note, Sports Brief previously reported that Germany coach Hansi Flick unveiled a 26-man squad for the summer friendlies, with the return of eight players, including Antonio Ruediger, Leroy Sane, and Ilkay Gundogan.
Meanwhile, Thomas Mueller, Serge Gnabry, Niklas Suele, and Mario Goetze, all of whom participated in the 2023 Qatar World Cup, were left out of the squad.
