Only 40% Of People Know How To Make Peppered Snail Recipe This Way
How to make peppered Snail – Yes you heard me, only 40% of people actually know how to prepare peppered snail Recipe this exact way I’m going to show you in this post.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I’m a certified peppered meat enthusiast! That means that whenever I pass by some sort of peppered meat joint, it’s pretty hard for me to tear my eyes (and stomach) away. I must stop and buy.
So whether it’s Asun Goat chops, or it’s peppered stick meat or Chicken Suya, I’m your guy for the consumption job.
In fact, if I wasn’t blogging about comfort food recipes, I’d most certainly be blogging about all things spicy meat.
You can usually find this type of peppered meat over here in Lagos Nigeria on the road sides inside glass displays or in some Bush Bars in the evenings.
HOW TO REMOVE SNAIL FROM ITS SHELL AND WASH THE SLIME
Okay, I’ll just put it out there. The act of removing Snail from its shell and washing out the slime is probably one of the most disgusting tasks in Cookingdom.
And not only is it gross, it’s also a little complicated. You can’t just wash it out with water or Kerosene (I’m joking o. There’s no Kerosene involved).
But fact remains that for you to prepare this wonderful Peppered Snail Recipe, you’re going to have to get down and dirty. No two ways about it.
PART 1: REMOVING SNAIL FROM ITS SHELL
So for the uninitiated (all you veteran cooks don’t need this tutorial. Naa. You’re already experienced at this), here’s exactly how to remove Snail from its shell, clean it and wash it properly.
There are two ways to remove the Snail from its shell.
METHOD 1
The first way is to soak it in hot boiled water for about 10 minutes, then using a two pronged fork, pierce the Snail meat and pull it out of the shell.
The role of the hot water here is to properly lubricate the insides of the shell to enable it slip out easily.
METHOD 2
The second method (if you’re more impatient) is to simply grab a Hammer (some would say use a Stone but hey, we aren’t all razz), crack the shell and use the fork to pull out the Snail.
PART 2: WASHING OUT THE SLIME
There are 3 ways to get this done (funny enough, now that I think about it, my mum only ever used one method).
METHOD 1: ALUM & LIME
This is the method that a lot of you know or at least have heard about. Cut the Lime into quarters and use to rub the Snails. After which, also rub the Snails with the Alum (some of you only use Alum but if you combine with Lime, you’re sure to get the best results).
METHOD 2: GARRI
Yes. You can use Garri to clean out the slime from Snails (you think it’s sole purpose is just to make your Eba?).
Just pour out some Garri grains into a bowl of unshelled Snails and rub them thoroughly with the Garri.
METHOD 3: SALT
Just like in the Garri situation, pour Salt into a bowl of unshelled Snails and rub rub rub until the slime is all gone.
