Paraguayan film Eami will compete at the 2023 Oscars
“It is with great joy that we share the news that Eami is the film chosen by the Paraguayan Film Academy to represent Paraguay at the Oscar Awards in the category of Best International Film. Thanks to all the members of the Academy. It's a great honor," Paz Encina posted on her Twitter account.
The award selection committee was made up of active members of the Paraguayan Film Academy and was approved by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The call was open to all feature films that met the proposed requirements to compete in the Oscar Awards .
Paz Encina's most recent film was the winner of the Tiger Award, the highest award at the 51st International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR).
History of the Ayoreo Totobiegosode people
Eami is a work that moves between fiction and reality to address the displacement of indigenous populations, specifically the Ayoreo Totobiegosode people.
The synopsis of the film indicates that there was an invasion, where Eami lost his own and then a flight begins. He flies the Asoja, the bird —the woman-goddess of the Ayoreo Totobiegosode indigenous culture— and brings back memories of the past, present and future. Read More…
