Passenger traffic at Athens International Airport witnessed a significant surge in May, with a remarkable increase of 23.4%. This upturn in numbers reflects a positive trend in the aviation industry and highlights the airport's growing popularity as a major hub for travelers. In May, there was a remarkable surge in passenger traffic at Athens International Airport, with a total of 2,538,086 passengers. This represents a significant increase of 23.4% compared to May 2022 and 11.1% compared to the same month in 2019.
Both domestic and international traffic surpassed the levels recorded in 2022, with domestic traffic experiencing a growth of 20.6% and international traffic witnessing a growth of 24.8%. In comparison to May 2019, domestic passenger traffic showed a notable increase of 15.6%, and international traffic rose by 9.1%.
During the period from January to May, the cumulative number of passengers reached 9.15 million, marking a substantial surge of 39.9% compared to the corresponding period in the previous year, and a 5.9% increase from 2019. Domestic traffic demonstrated a significant growth of 29.9%, while international traffic experienced a remarkable surge of 45.1% compared to 2022. Furthermore, when compared to 2019, domestic and international traffic witnessed increases of 7.9% and 4.9%, respectively.
The total number of scheduled flights during the five months amounted to 80,878, reflecting a notable rise of 17.4% from 2022 and 4.1% from 2019. Domestic flights increased by 10.4%, whereas international flights witnessed a growth of 23.4% from 2022, and 8.0% and 1.3% from 2019, respectively.
