Peru: Education Ministry, UK sign agreement to build 75 educational institutions

Within the framework of "Escuelas Bicentenario" (Bicentennial Schools) Special Public Investment Project, Education Minister Carlos Gallardo and British Ambassador to Peru Kate Harrisson signed the contract for the construction of 75 educational institutions in nine Peruvian regions. It entails an investment of S/2.8 billion (about US$696 million).
The government-to-government contract for Specialized Technical Assistance Service for Bicentennial Schools was signed on Wednesday in a ceremony held at public school IE 0139 Gran Amauta Mariategui in Lima's San Juan de Lurigancho district.
It will allow the implementation of educational infrastructure in Cajamarca, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Ucayali, Junin, Cusco, Puno, Callao, and Lima regions to benefit more than 100,000 students.
"The signing of this agreement makes me very happy, and I would like this to happen to most of our schools. All of us, teachers, miss our students, and we want to return to face-to-face classes. Thus, we are working hard focused on next year. Although the human factor is essential, we cannot speak of educational quality if we do not rely on the adequate infrastructure," the minister expressed.
For her part, British Ambassador Harrisson indicated that the United Kingdom is honored to have been chosen to participate in the special project within the framework of Peru's Independence Bicentennial.
Likewise, the diplomat stressed that this project will contribute to boosting social infrastructure in education —an essential pillar for Peru's development process and investment in its population.
Bicentennial Schools will be built using BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology, which will allow them to have modular designs that will be adapted to the climate and geographical conditions of each region: coast, rainy coast, mountains, and jungle.
It must be noted that this is the first project created as part of the Special Public Investment Projects mechanism and its purpose is to contribute to boosting economic activity and guaranteeing the effective provision of infrastructure and public services for the population, as well as to have a positive impact on economic activity with the best practices and international standards.
