Peru loses S / 160 million annually by not regulating online games and bets
The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Roberto Sánchez, during the meeting of the Council of Ministers held today, reported on a draft law prepared by the Mincetur to regulate games and sports betting on the Internet, which will allow the collection of more than S/ 160 million annual.
Sánchez indicated that local and foreign companies with foreign permits that capture bets in the country without benefits for society have been identified.
It is estimated that during 2020 the "remote sports games and bets" generated a movement of S/ 4,500 million, for an approximate of 150,000 daily bets. However, as it is an activity not regulated by the State, not only is the payment of taxes evaded, but the capital leaves the country to tax havens such as Malta and Curaçao, among others.
By applying 12% of direct taxes to this activity, the annual collection will allow to collect more than S / 160 million per year, explained the head of the Mincetur.
He added that the rule will make it possible to increase tax revenue, which will benefit investments in sports and regional tourism. Read More…
