Peruvian Authorities Confiscate Cocaine Bricks Adorned with Nazi Symbols
In a recent operation, Peruvian anti-narcotics police intercepted a shipment of cocaine weighing 58kg (127 pounds) en route to Belgium. What made this seizure particularly notable was the discovery that the packages carrying the illicit substance were adorned with Nazi insignia and featured the imprint of Germany's infamous wartime leader, Adolf Hitler.
The cocaine was cleverly concealed within 50 brick-sized packages, each one prominently displaying a Nazi swastika. Disturbing images released by the police on Thursday showcased some of the opened packages, revealing the word "Hitler" meticulously inscribed in raised letters on the compressed white powder.
Authorities uncovered the drugs on a Liberian-flagged vessel docked in the small port town of Paita, located near the northern border of Ecuador. The ship had recently arrived from Guayaquil, a major Ecuadorian port recognized as a significant departure point for South American narcotics destined for the United States and Europe.
At present, no information has been provided regarding the arrest of any individuals in connection with the seizure.
The Peruvian police's anti-drug directorate, in collaboration with the Associated Press news agency, shared videos and photographs revealing that the drugs were concealed within the ventilation system of a shipping container. Law enforcement officials continue to meticulously search the over 80 containers present on the vessel, seeking any additional illicit substances.
The discovery of cocaine wrapped in Nazi symbols represents a novel occurrence for Peruvian authorities, who have previously encountered cocaine packaged in brick-shaped parcels featuring various unconventional and enigmatic symbols.
Following Colombia, Peru holds the dubious distinction of being the world's second-largest producer of cocaine, manufacturing an estimated 400 tonnes of the illicit drug annually, as per official statistics. Furthermore, the country is recognized as one of the primary cultivators of coca leaf, a substance with legal applications such as chewing or infusion, but is also the primary raw material for cocaine production.
