Pets continue to promote more pet friendly real estate projects
Its presence is not only imposed in the heart, but also in the design of apartments and common areas. A trend that is also boosted by the consolidation of responsible ownership and the right that they gained thanks to the new Real Estate Co-Ownership Law.
According to a survey carried out by Cadem in 2022, 86% Chileans have at least one pet in their home, which represents 13% more than in 2019. The penetration that dogs and cats have had within families has caused important changes in the consumption, habits and decisions of the owners of these domestic animals.
Natalia Guerrero, a veterinarian from the Universidad Mayor, explains that “pets are no longer just pets, they are part of the family, life partners, so it is necessary and imminent for spaces to adapt to them. Now people, when looking for places to live or stay, look for this type of space and we see it every day”.
This is how the pet friendly trend has spread in cafes, restaurants, hotels and, more recently, in new real estate projects, in tune with the Chilean lifestyle, responsible pet ownership and the new Real Estate Co-Ownership Law. that ended the restrictions on the ownership of pets and companion animals in condominiums.
A Siena Inmobiliaria survey on preferences among current apartment contributors revealed that 45% of them live with their pet and 19% plan to have a pet in the future, so the new family group with a pet would reach 58% of the surveyed. Dogs lead with 69% of preferences, followed by cats with 34%.
