Piolo Pascual Stars in 'Moro' as a Disgruntled Elder Brother
Renowned actor Piolo Pascual takes on the role of Jasim, a diligent but disgruntled elder brother, in the new film "Moro." Set against the backdrop of the Maguindanao region in Western Mindanao, the movie delves into the intricate lives of two siblings. Jasim's younger brother, Abdel, portrayed by Baron Geisler, is an irresponsible character who has squandered his savings on gambling.
"Moro" is more than just a family drama; it's a profound social commentary directed by Brillante Mendoza. According to Pascual, the film speaks the universal language of love and unity, transcending religious and regional boundaries. "It's a gem of a film on the struggles of a loving mother and how pain touches the characters' lives as they go through their respective ordeals and grief," he explained.
Pascual shared his insights on the film, emphasizing its impactful narrative. "Regardless of whether your role is small or big, we are all part of the message of the movie - which speaks about unity and not about religion or regional culture," he said. His passion for good stories and love for cinema drew him to this project. "This film is a reminder of the consequences of our choices in life," he added.
Both Pascual and Geisler requested Director Mendoza for a special screening of "Moro" on the big screen before its Netflix release. "The cinematic experience is simply magical," Pascual quipped, highlighting the importance of experiencing the film in a theater. After a brief talk-back session post-screening, he rushed out of the venue, leaving the audience with a lasting impression of his words.
"Moro" promises to be a compelling film, touching on deep themes of family, love, and the repercussions of our life choices. With Pascual's and Geisler's powerful performances under the direction of Brillante Mendoza, it is set to resonate with audiences both locally and internationally.
